100 WELCOMES TO THE HASTINGS OPEN BOWLS TOURNAMENT

Thank you for visiting the Hastings Open Tournament Website.

In August 2009, we held our first tournament lasting one week instead of two weeks and consisting of five tournaments instead of eight. The format was decided after extensive research and we thank those who gave us their views as to which competitions should remain and those which should be dropped. This year we gave out a questionnaire to entrants asking if you were happy with the competition choices.

These are at present Ladies' & Men's Singles, Ladies & Men's Pairs and the Open Triples and the results of the questionnaire revealed these should NOT be changed (view questionnaire results).

The First Open Bowls tournament in Hastings was held in the summer of 1911 at the Central Cricket Ground (which is where the Priory Meadow shopping centre stands today) in Queens Road under the title of 'The Hastings & St Leonards Open Bowls and Quoits Tournament'. We have therefore already celebrated our centenary in 2011 with great success.

The Hastings Open Bowls Tournament still proves to attract entrants from across the globe and Hastings Open Bowls Tournament Committee members are always pleased to welcome entrants young and old to The Main Bowls Pavilion on competition start day.

The Main Bowls Pavilion is situated in White Rock Gardens and is home to Rosemount and White Rock bowls clubs. It is used as the nerve centre for the annual tournament held commencing on the second Monday in August, following on from the conclusion of the Bexhill Men's Open Tournament.

The four bowling greens (reduced from eight and then, in 2009, to six by Hastings Borough Council) offer panoramic views over the English Channel and the venue is considered by many to be the best and most attractive in the South of England. In addition, the Pavilion has a licensed bar and kitchen which is supported by catering facilities from Clambers Play Centre (near green 2) and Falaise Indoor Bowls Centre a short walk uphill from the greens. An aerial view of the gardens can be seen on our history page.

The Hastings Open Bowls Tournament Committee also organises the highly popular end of season Charity Triples event which takes place on the last Sunday in September, marking the closing of the outdoor bowling season. As we are now limited to 24 rinks, please get your entries in early to avoid disappointment and remember to send your Parking Permit Application if you want one.
